Soboba is Prepping for Tee Off

Charity Golf Tournament set for March ◆ By Mike Hiles

The much-anticipated annual Soboba Foundation & Soboba Casino Charity Golf Tournament that will benefit 10 local nonprofits has been set for March 27 and 28 at the Soboba Springs Golf Course.

"Since 2013, the tournament has contributed more than $1 million in support of many local nonprofit organizations throughout Indian Country and Southern California," said Andrew Vallejos, the foundation’s Sponsorship Coordinator. "This would simply not be possible without the continued generosity and support of our foundation partners."

The two-day tournament will allow for a maximum of 40 teams per day on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants will also receive a reduced room rate opportunity at the Soboba Casino Resort allowing guests to enjoy the entirety of the course, the festivities to follow and the all-new resort.

"Continuing with tradition, our sponsorship packages provide each player with exciting gifts and giveaways, along with memorable raffle opportunities and an exciting round of golf out on the course," Vallejos said.

About 30 qualified applications were received from groups with a variety of great causes and the Soboba Foundation Board will review and choose the 10 that will benefit from the seventh annual tournament. Members are: President Geneva Mojado, Vice President Dondi Silvas, Secretary Michelle Modesto, Treasurer Jacob Briones and Members-at-Large Monica Herrera, Isaiah Vivanco and Scott Cozart.

Vivanco, who is also the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians Tribal Council Vice Chairman, will serve as Tournament Director again this year. He said some of the unique challenges that he’s been presented with this time around is making sure everything gets done on time because there are so many other scheduled activities surrounding the opening of the new facility.

"Since last year’s event, the Soboba Springs Golf Course has been renovated with the assistance of Golf Course Architect Cary Bickler and the Soboba Casino Resort will be in full swing," he said. "We are excited to debut all that’s new with our tribal members and the surrounding communities and this tournament will be our first huge opportunity to do that."
