Cash and prizes and lots of fun await guests in 2017 ◆ By Mike Hiles
A way to possibly make 2017 a prosperous new year would be to visit Soboba Casino during the month of January. And if one of your resolutions was to have more fun, it will also take care of that.
The "New Year, New You Slot Tournament" is happening from 6 to 8 p.m. every Thursday through Jan. 26. Guests can win their share of $24,840 in free slot play and great prizes. Registration to compete in the tournament is possible by swiping a Club Soboba card at any promotional kiosk between 3 and 6:30 p.m. each tournament day. Select the proper icon for this event and take the printed ticket to the non-smoking room players club. Participants must be a Club Soboba card member. Registration is limited to the first 200 guests, who can only participate once a week.
"The Sons of Anarchy" have nothing on the "The Sons of Soboba," an event that will result in more than $147,000 in cash and prizes being awarded to some lucky Club Soboba members. Each Saturday and Sunday, except for Jan. 29, from 4 to 9 p.m. one guest will be drawn every half hour to play on the Sons of Soboba Game Board for a chance to win. Earning 200 points from now until 8:59 p.m. on Jan. 28 will result in one entry. To qualify for a chance to win one of two grand prizes, earn 250 points before 9:59 p.m. on Jan. 28 and swipe the Club Soboba card at any promotional kiosk to select the "Sons of Soboba Grand Finale" icon to enter.
Jan. 28's grand finale will include a meet and greet with Ryan Hurst, the star of the FX original series "Sons of Anarchy." Plus two grand prize winners will each ride off on a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle. The well-known actor and producer is cemented in viewers hearts and minds for his sensitive and heroic portrayal of Jax's best friend Harry "Opie" Winston on the hit series.
Originally a recurring cast member in the first season, Hurst was promoted to main cast member for the following season and quickly became a fan favorite. His portrayal of Opie earned him the 2011 Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film. He is also known for several big screen roles in films such as "Taken" and "Saving Private Ryan." He is currently on WGN America's "Outsiders."
Michael J. Broderick, Director of Marketing at Soboba Casino said he has been a Hurst fan since he played the part of Gerry Bertier in "Remember the Titans."
"But it was his role on 'Sons of Anarchy' that really made me sit up and take notice," Broderick said. "The way he played that part, and the tragic ending of that character, affected not only me but all of his fans. The producers said they got tons of angry mail asking for Ryan to return. The fans loved him that much. We are certainly excited to have him come to Soboba and give away two bad-ass Harleys and we are going to 'patch him in' as an honorary 'Son of Soboba.' We hope all of our guests come out for this exciting event!"
Between 6 and 10 p.m. on Jan. 28, Soboba guests who are Club Soboba members will be able to take a photo with Ryan and receive an autograph, all for free and while supplies last. Not a Club Soboba member? Not to worry, signing up at the casino is free and easy. Hurst's pit stop at Soboba Casino, in conjunction with its month-long "Sons of Soboba" promotion, is an exciting way to start the new year.
Speaking of Harley "hogs," a 2017 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic motorcycle has been hidden on one random Club Soboba account. From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Jan. 20, club members can swipe their card at any kiosk for a chance to find the missing motorcycle. Guests who swipe and do not receive a Harley will receive a consolation prize.
Who said Friday the 13th is not a lucky day? From 3 to 9 p.m. on Jan. 13, a winner will be drawn every half hour to receive $1,300 in cash – there will be 13 winners in all! See Club Soboba for registration requirements.
To round out the month and to welcome in the Chinese New Year, the casino will offer a Golden Week Dragon Cash Kiosk Game from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Jan. 29, 30 and 31 where eight random winners will walk away with $888 in cash. More than $21,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded in celebration of the "Year of the Rooster." Swipe your Club Soboba card and give yourself a chance to have lots to crow about.
Bring your appetite with you and stop by the Soboba Café for some great food. A different Blue Plate Special is offered each weekday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for just $3.99. Show your Club Soboba card to receive the discount. On Sundays from 4 to 10 p.m., hungry guests can enjoy the café's Prime Rib Special. For just $13.95, diners can enjoy an 8-ounce prime rib cooked to tender juicy perfection, creamy mashed potatoes and gravy, chef's choice of steamed vegetables, dinner roll and a fresh garden salad.
For those wanting to get their groove on, stop by AC's Lounge for entertainment and some late-night fun. Tuesdays are Latin Nights featuring Super Brizal at 9 p.m. Thursdays are on fire with Hot Mixx with DJ Mike "Da Chef" at 9 p.m. Different live bands play on Fridays and Saturdays.
